The corporate Business Development department has the objective of increasing the number of assignments from the private sector and the government. The department has a staff of 17 who are involved in account management, the quotation process, technology transfer, legal aspects of contracts and marketing communication. The department collaborates closely with the unit business developers who are responsible for realising the commercial objectives and the industrial partnersships for technological developments within the units.

In the position of technology transfer expert, you are responsible for marketing (or commercialising) ECN technology through licenses, collaborations or joint ventures and spin offs. The technology transfer expert initiates, designs and executes technology commercialisation processes. He or she is able to independently translate a patent or technology for a wide range of different markets into business for industrial partners; can draw up a complete business plan; is also aware of the risks and ensures the best possible deal for ECN; and works on various projects at the same time, covering all units and technology areas. The activities range from establishing the commercialisation strategy for a technology and compiling a business plan to selecting partners to collaborate with and negotiating (license) contracts.

He or she is a high-level discussion partner with an academic background, for example in economics or (technical) business administration or a combination of technology and commerce obtained through working experience. The ideal candidate has at least 7 years experience in an industrial or consulting environment working as business developer or industrial marketer with final (budget) responsibility. He or she is able to think out of the box, work in support of and together with the decision-makers in the organisation, can get things done, has vision and persuasion and knows how to negotiate and sell. He or she is experienced in introducing new technologies to the market, has sharp analytical skills, is experienced with financial modelling, is well-acquainted with license structures and negotiations, can work quickly and accurately and has an entrepreneurial attitude and customer-orientation. Management skills are an asset.
