The unit Biomass & Energy Efficiency focusses on research and technology development for the areas of i) thermo-chemical conversion of biomass into energy and chemicals, ii) efficient use of energy in the process industry, and iii) CO2 capture. The unit consists of four groups: Bio-energy, Sustainable Process Technology, Thermal Systems en Bio-refinery & Processing. The group Bio-energy specializes in technology development for upgrading and efficient production of high-quality energy carriers from biomass or biowaste, such as through torrefaction and gasification. The resulting breakthroughs in technology are further developed and commercialized in close collaboration with industrial partners.
We have a number of openings for Process/Chemical Engineers in research and development projects in the area of upgrading and conversion of biomass/waste. These projects aim at the development of innovative technology to convert biomass into higher grades of energy in the most efficient and cost effective way. An example of this is the production of gaseous fuels from biomass and subsequent upgrading into Substitute Natural Gas (SNG).
The projects are executed in close collaboration with industry and knowledge institutes, in both national and international research frameworks. In general first principles are demonstrated on a lab scale followed by a pilot scale proof of concept. On the basis of the results of the research program, the needs in the industry, and your personal drive, you will contribute to the realization of innovative technology, as well as to the initiation of new technological developments. In this function you can develop into a project manager role.
Your profile, education and experience
You have a master degree or a PhD in Chemical/Process Engineering or in an equivalent field. Experience in the development of innovative technologies for the (chemical) process industry and/or energy industry is a clear pro. You have a strong affinity with technology development. You are a creative and excellent process engineer. You are self-conscious and you have a strong drive for success. You visibly take ownership for the topics at hand. You are a communicative team-player that enjoys working in multi-disciplinary teams.
