Energy Research Centre of The Netherlands (ECN) deploys a solid working method to help realize that transition: in collaboration with and for the market, we develop applied knowledge and technology.

The vacancy of Unit Business Development Manager forms a key position towards a more market driven ECN Wind Energy organization. This requires an experienced and qualified high level candidate from a knowledge-intensive organization.
The Unit Wind Energy
The subject of onshore and offshore wind energy as energy source is very actual. The recently signed Dutch Energy Agreement has a multi Giga Watt content of Wind Energy under the assumption of a cost reduction roadmap for the coming years. Also in other countries a similar program is in progress.
Related to its ambitions, ECN Wind Energy plans to be the world leading institutes on Innovative Solutions for Offshore Wind Farms. All our activities are aimed at significantly improving the Cost of Energy of Offshore Wind Farms. The Unit is both nationally as internationally very well positioned and expects to grow significantly in portfolio and size, specifically on the industrial side.
ECN Wind Energy develops knowledge and technology for the offshore wind energy market. The research and development program consists of activities in the fields of wind farm operations & maintenance, experiments & measurements technology, rotor aerodynamics and wind farm aerodynamics, wind turbine design, control and electrical systems. The unit has a test site in the province of North Holland with various industrial wind turbine proto-types and wind turbines for experimental research and development.
The unit Wind Energy co-operates closely with international industrial partners, research institutes and universities. Knowledge and technology is applied in joint development programs and high level industrial support including contract research and due diligence for utility companies, wind farm developers and operators, wind turbine manufacturers and blade manufacturers. Clients are positioned both nationally and internationally (Europe, Asia, US). The Wind Energy unit currently employs more than 55 persons.
The function of Business Development Manager
In this function you are responsible for the acquisition of projects and for relationship management of accounts at ECN Wind Energy Unit level. Moreover, you are responsible for realising the turnover targets of your Unit and you steer and direct complex sales trajectories together with Unit Wind employees who are responsible for the content. You promote the importance of commercial aspects in the R&D work and Technology programming of the Wind Energy Unit. You are the manager of the Unit Business Developers and will lead for the commercialization process of the Unit. In your function you will be responsible for the business intelligence and the subsequent translation to the (strategic) definition, marketing and sales of products. Functional leadership will be given to you by the Corporate Business Development Director. The hierarchical steering will be done by the Unit Director Wind Energy.
You have a relevant academic degree and broad experience in a comparable function in a knowledge-intensive organization, preferably wind energy or energy related. Moreover, you have excellent commercial skills, a result-oriented attitude, social-communicative and entrepreneurial skills. You have demonstrable experience with coaching and guidance of professionals. You have a wide orientation and demonstrable, successful experience with the set-up and roll-out of (long-term) business development trajectories. You have excellent speaking and writing skills in the English language. Frequent travelling is part of your job requirement (maximally 30%), also outside Europe.
